参加汉语水平考试可获得奖学金到中国学习
每年秋天在休斯顿大学亚美研究中心举办的美南地区汉语水平考试（HSK）今年将有两项重大突破，一是今秋增加繁体字试卷，一是HSK奖学金的资格将不再局限于美国国籍，而扩及持绿卡者。
2003年第五届HSK汉语水平考试从8月18日起开始报名，于11月2日（周日）在休大亚美研究中心举行。HSK是中国教育部所属国家汉语水平考试委员会主办，是一项针对中文非第一语言者设计的国家级标准化考试，性质类似于“英文托福考试”。从1999年起，已经有近200人参加了休大亚美研究中心举办的HSK考试，其中99%都获得了HSK委员会颁发的汉语水平证书，近50名成绩优胜者获得奖学金，利用暑假到中国完成了参观学习。
参加HSK考试者可以直接到休大亚美研究中心报名，也可以通过信函报名，报名后可以获得《HSK中国汉语水平考试考生手册》，并可购买包括HSK介绍，样题与答案，听力磁带等在内的《汉语水平考试大纲》。

The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), hosted every fall by the Asian American Studies Center, University of Houston, will see two major breakthroughs this year: first, the examinee will have the option to take the test in traditional Chinese; and second, eligible recipients of HSK scholarships will no longer be limited to American citizens but will include Green card holders.
The 5th HSK test will be held in the Asian American Studies Center (AASC) at UH on
Sunday November 2nd , 2003 and registration starts on August 18th. HSK, authorized by the State Committee for Chinese Proficiency Test under the Chinese Ministry of Education, is the national standardized test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers of Chinese, equivalent to TOEFL designed specifically for non-English speakers. There have been about 200 examinees since 1999, who took the HSK at AASC, University of Houston, among whom 99% received the Chinese Proficiency Certificate issued by the HSK Committee and around 50 were awarded scholarships and completed their study in China over the summer break.
HSK examinees may register by stopping by the AASC at UH, or by mail, and then get a free copy of the HSK Examinees’ Handbook. The HSK Guideline, which includes sample exam papers and listening comprehension tapes can be obtained through purchase.
